NEIL DALTON

Name: Neil Dalton (prefer to be known as Dolly)
Job Title: Head of the Physiotherapy Department
Been at the club since: 11 years
Qualifications: Diploma in Sports Therapy, Chartered physio, Degree in physiotherapy
What does your job entail? I have Geoff Haugh under me and then Peter Hampton does the centre of Excellence. My responsibilities cover everything that affects the players health at the Club. Sports injuries, car crashes or high blood pressure, I cover them all. I have Doctor Haworth to call upon, who is a retired GP, and he helps me out on a consultancy basis. I also gain advice from numerous surgeons around the country, from Carlisle to London. I look after the first teamers and the youth lads and occasionally the centre of excellence, if needed. That doesn't happen very often because Geoff and Peter have it under control, but if they are busy then I will do a clinic for them. On top of all that I oversee the ordering of supplies for all the physio needs.
What changes can we expect for the future? My old room down the corridor, which we use first thing in the morning and on match days, is being extended. That means that the office Simmo and Dennis used to use will be knocked through. It's being fitted out with new kitchen cupboards and an ice machine, fridge, weighing scales, all new kit so I'm looking forward to that being up and running. The gym is being refurbished now from the floods, new flooring has been laid, and we'll be getting new equipment. That will be ready for next week. I still have my office above the gym and, in the morning when the players come in, they wait for me then we all go up to that room and they get treatment. From there they go in to the gym and do some work whilst I treat the other injuries. This will be great because we have had to use the Sands centre for the last six months, since the floods, so it will make things so much easier having everything together on site.
What do you get up to away from the club? I like a bit of golf, playing football on Sunday mornings ... that's about it. Oh, and I like listening to music, punk and scar, like The Jam, Madness and Stiff Little Fingers. Other than that my daughter keeps me busy as well.
