The Directors of Carlisle United are pleased to announce the appointment of John Ward as their new Manager.

John takes over the role from Wednesday 3 October and will meet the players and staff during the following 24 hours.

His services have been secured on a 4-year contract after a substantial compensation deal was agreed with Cheltenham.

The Directors wish to record their sincere thanks to Greg Abbott and his team for the caretaker role they have fulfilled over the last 10 games, where they maintained the highest standards both on and off the field, and have been a real credit to Carlisle United Football Club. Greg's coaching skills are clearly reflected in the current League position.

John Ward will bring to Carlisle United the experience that is needed to push the club forward in future years, and build on the very solid base that has been established.

We welcome John to his new role and wish him continued success.
