THEY'LL BE WANTING TO STICK ONE OVER ON US
With kick-off for United's Cumberland Cup tie with Harraby now looming large, we caught up with the Carlisle manager Eric Kinder to get his thoughts on the game:
"There's been some friendly banter between myself and (Football in the Community, and Harraby coach) James Tose!" he said, "I've told him that if he values his job working with the Under 16's he knows what he has to do! But it's all banter, I know James works hard at his coaching and he wants to succeed, so it will be interesting to see how his adult team does."
He added: "He's mentioned a couple of times that they've only lost once this season so it will be interesting to see what the standard is like. I know he's quietly confident and with him having a few lads who have been with our youth system playing for him they'll be wanting to stick one over on us. Whenever a side from a lower league plays a side from a higher one in a cup competition they want to do well, it's only normal. With it being played on Brunton Park we know the surface will be excellent and I'm sure that's something the Harraby lads will be looking forward to. It's up to us to treat them with the respect they deserve, and they'll get that because we want to win and we're a professional football club with professional footballers who don't want to be turned over - simple as that!"
On the United side who will take to the pitch he said: "We haven't finalised the team we're putting out yet. We do still have to sort out one or two things with the manager. It is an important time for the first team and with there being four or five League 1 fixtures tomorrow night the manager and Gregg will be out and about. That's not a case of them taking the Cumberland Cup lightly but they can't be everywhere at once. However, there may still be two or three pro's playing because they simply need the games."
He also knows exactly what is at stake: "If we lost I'd never go in the Football in the Community office again" he said. "But I'm always a positive person and without being clever or big headed I expect us to make it through to the semi-final. I hope it's a good game, I can imagine a few people coming on down to support the underdogs but we're treating it seriously and I'm looking for a decent result!"
