Eric Kinder spoke to us about the Morecambe Reserve game:

"I'm a little bit disappointed in the performance. We put a decent side out, plus the two trialists, Darren and Chris, and we should have done better.

It was very difficult for Chris, because we got a phonecall from someone who we respect, telling us to have a quick look. It's no secret that we are wanting to strengthen in defence, and we are not arrogant enough just to turn people down. It was an ideal situation for him to come in. He's bitterly disappointed with his own performance, but we need someone to push the first team players, and I think he's a little bit off that.

I'm disappointed, because I think we're miles better than what we saw tonight. We didn't start with the right tempo, we didn't move the ball quick enough, we gave them too much room and we didn't get close enough to people. Overall we need to set our standards a little bit higher. It isn't just me saying that, the players fully agree with me.

I think that we had a good enough side out there to win that game, and I was disappointed when it seemed that it was going to be a draw. Then their goal came ten seconds from the end of the game, and the lad will never score one like that again in his life. No keeper would have stopped that.

I had fully expected us to win once we'd equalised. I thought we'd step the tempo up and have a go at them, but we didn't. We didn't play to the way we can, and I think the players know that.

The pleasing points are that Shaun Vipond has come through 90 minutes, in a strange position for him. Due to the personnel we needed to have a look at, he had to slot in to the right back area. He acquitted himself very well, and the most pleasing thing for Shaun is that it's his first game of the season, and he still looked strong even when we approached full time.

Danny Carlton is a handful, and if anything happens to our first team forwards then he can step up with no problems. It wasn't one of Lummy's better games, he knows that, he sets himself high standards and demands a lot of himself, and he feels that he's dropped below the standards he sets himself tonight. The rest have got to start giving Greg some selection problems to get themselves in the first team, and I don't think they did themselves justice tonight.

I want to win every game, and this is where me and the manager have a disagreement. He says that in Reserve and Youth team football, results don't matter, performances do. I tend to disagree, but it's a friendly argument. He can see my side of the argument, and I can see his. It's a winning industry we're in, and we have to learn how to win, and we've got to want to win every game whatever level.

Like I say, we're all disappointed because we went out there with all of the right intentions. We started slowly and I don't think we really managed to pick things up at all. You've got to start well, and if you don't then you do find it hard to get yourselves up and going.

It's the first game of the Reserve season, though, and I'm sure we'll put things right."
