Peter Murphy signed for United in the summer of 2001 from Blackburn Rovers and has now joined an exclusive club by making over 300 games for the Cumbrians.
It was Peter who scored the goal at Stoke in the Play Off final at the end of the 2004/05 season that catapulted United back in to the Football League.
He has proved to be a versatile player who can play at left back, centre back and either in the centre or on the left of midfield.
Comfortable on the ball, he is happy to pass or take players on and can be relied upon to be one of the first in the queue to take free kicks.
Now established as a centre back - his favoured position - he earned his first full Republic of Ireland cap in the summer of 2007 playing in the 1-1 draw against Bolivia, having previously played in the U19 and U21 sides.
Under contract until the summer of 2009.
