30-year-old midfielder Ronnie Wallwork has teamed up with the Carlisle United squad to join in with their training sessions following his release from Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Wallwork, who scored once during a twelve game loan spell with the Cumbrians back in the 1997/98 campaign, started his career as a trainee with Manchester United and has played for West Brom, Bradford, Barnsley, Huddersfield and the Owls since his last appearance in a Carlisle United shirt.

John Ward explained: "Ronnie has come to us because of his connection with Greg Abbott, really. Greg knew someone who recommended Ronnie, and the lad is looking for a club at the moment, so we have agreed that he can come over and train with us. Ronnie joined us at a tough time, because it was prior to us going to Leyton Orient, and obviously we then had the QPR game immediately afterwards. He'll now join us for Thursday and Friday this week, and we'll bring him in next week as well, if he wishes to do so, and we'll see how it goes."

"He knows all about Carlisle already, of course," he added, "although that was some time ago. He's been on his travels since then, but from the familiarity point of view he knows what it is like up here. He's already got to know the group of players, and we've got to know him, but at the moment it's no more than offering him a bit of training and we'll see where that takes us. It may be the start of something that moves him elsewhere, or it may be that we get something going here. At the moment it's simply a training session for Ronnie and for ourselves."
