19-year-old trialist Dean Nicholson will not return to Brunton Park next week after ending his spell with the club with a first half appearance in the 4-0 win over Kendal on Friday night.

Nicholson, a former West Brom Academy player, has spent the last nine days with the Cumbrians, training with the first team ahead of their first friendly game.

John Ward told us: "It was a really big ask to expect Dean to come in and challenge our established players, but I hope that he has enjoyed his time with us. He has worked hard, but we won't be pursuing things with him at this time. We wish him all the very best for the future, and we hope that he has taken something away from his time with us."
