WE WILL APPEAL
Carlisle United Football Club are set to lodge an appeal against the David Raven sending off decision, made in the 67th minute of the Southend home game on Saturday.
Raven, who received the club's first red card of the campaign from Referee Mr Taylor, protested his innocence immediately following the game, and subsequent TV images do show that the defender may have a case.
John Ward explained: "We do intend to lodge an appeal once we have the footage together. I think it's only right and proper that we do that, as the player feels as if he has been harshly treated, and the footage that we saw on the Championship programme yesterday morning suggests that it was a harsh decision."
"We're speaking to ITV Border to see if we can get a copy of the footage they have," he said, "as they have a different view and angle to the club video footage that we have already looked at. The Referee has told Dave that he lunged in to the challenge, but we disagree with that. There are two tackles made by him during that incident, and both are very similar, in our opinion. For the first one, the Ref keeps his hands behind his back and allows play to continue, and then he produces a straight red card for the second. The actual footage, again in our opinion, shows that he goes for the ball. So, like I say, we'll get all of that together and then take it from there."
