Carlisle United have been singled out for the F&C Investments Performance of the Week award for their impressive display at the Matchroom Stadium last weekend.

The five-man LMA awarding panel is chaired by Howard Wilkinson, with Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett, and Barry Fry helping to make the final decision.

Wilkinson said: "Carlisle United's 3-0 victory over Orient, in London, is even more impressive than, for example, the Sunderland victory at Aston Villa, simply for the travelling aspect alone. To put in that kind of performance, and get that kind of result, is a credit to the team."

John Ward will receive an engraved crystal football early next week, and will appear on SKY Sports, talking about the performance, shortly before kick off at the Gillingham game on Saturday.

The United Boss said: "Obviously it's great to receive these kinds of awards, and this one really is a team effort. The panel who make this decision know what they are looking for, so we're pleased. Hopefully we will continue to produce performances and results like these as we get in to the final weeks of the season."
