The suspension of Luke Joyce gave Johann Smith his tenth start of the campaign, with Kev Gray slotting back in to the centre of defence as James Krause continued to struggle with a niggling injury.
Peter Murphy moved across to the left to provide cover, in the absence of the suspended Zigor Aranalde, as Neil McDonald went in search of a fourth consecutive win in front of the Bank Holiday crowd.
Bournemouth started the game looking to get forward but they were caught short when United broke forward following a long headed clearance from Gray. Lumsdon clipped it onwards to Gall, who bided his time before inviting Johann Smith to run the ball in to the box. His first touch took him beyond Purches, and the Cherries right back had no choice but to try to execute the tackle, clipping the heels of the United winger as he tried to clear the ball. Referee Mr Friend had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Danny Graham smashed his fifth goal in four games with a powerful unstoppable drive in to the bottom corner.
David McGoldrick had two half chances to level things shortly after, as he spun on a bouncing ball in to the box but hooked it wide of the target. An Anderton free kick in the next attack found the Bournemouth striker unmarked at the far post, but his header was weak and it angled softly behind the goal.
Joe Garner dragged a speculative effort wide, from 22 yards, in the 11th minute, before McGoldrick stole half a yard at the other end and drilled another long range effort in to the Warwick as the visitors were restricted to shots from distance.
More excellent work from Graham high up the field saw him get it under control before nipping a reverse pass in to the path of the overlapping Kev Gall. Twisting and turning his way in to the 18 yard area he appeared to be nudged in the back, but he kept his feet and cut it back towards Joe Garner. A block sent it back to Gall, but his snapshot was parried at the front post by a vigilant Neil Moss.
Kev Gray was called in to action on 24 minutes when Josh Walker broke clear and hit a low cross in to the centre. Hayter was lurking, but the big United defender got their first with a well timed sliding tackle.
The lead was doubled for the Cumbrians in the 29th minute when Danny Livesey scored his 9th goal for the club, in what was his 99th appearance in all competitions, when he made a superb Jeff Smith free kick his own, nodding it in to the top corner from just 6 yards out.
Peter Murphy thundered a snapshot a yard wide on 31 minutes, when he put his left foot through a ricochet from a Johann Smith ball in to the box, as United followed the theme of recent weeks by looking like scoring with almost every foray in to the opposition half.
United were in control and comfortable, and McGoldrick summed up how it was going for the Cherries when he scuffed a poor shot right at Westwood in the 39th minute. He had other options available, but went for glory as Carlisle started to plug the gaps.
Half Time: United 2 - 0 Bournemouth
A double substitution brought renewed impetus for the Cherries after the break as Vokes and Pitman came on for Summerfield and Walker. It was still all at arms length though, as the United back line stopped everything that came their way.
Danny Graham put a hurried volley right at Moss on 50 minutes, and Johann Smith showed his pace as he raced beyond three tackles, as Carlisle turned the screw and dictated the pace of the game from the midfield.
David McGoldrick put another edge of the box punt well wide in the 55th minute, and Joe Garner shanked a first time volley high and wide from a cheeky Murphy free kick, as the tempo increased in the Cumbrian Spring sunshine.
Great football from Carlisle in the 58th minute saw Gall, Garner, Lumsdon and Raven work a position down the right, but Jeff Smith couldn't get enough on his 12 yard header to fully test Moss. Right back at the Carlisle end Pitman forced a handling error from Westwood as he whipped a fierce, low shot in. Raven was in attendance, and he knocked it clear as Anderton followed in.
Another excellent move in the 59th minute almost led to a third goal for United when crisp passing put Danny Graham in to the box. He took one touch, then rolled a sweet back heel in to the path of strike partner Joe Garner. He put his head over the ball, but pulled his left foot shot wide as he angled it through a sea of legs.
Having looked very comfortable, Carlisle were caught napping on the hour mark when a ball over the top dropped nicely for Anderton to take down. Westwood could only parry the blistering shot that followed, and substitute Sam Vokes said thank you very much as he blasted it in to the waiting net.
The Cherries were buoyed by their goal, and pushed the Cumbrians back as they flooded players forward, but it was United who would be next to go close when Jeff Smith played Graham free on the left. He held it up, setting Gall up for the shot, and the block from that one saw Jeff Smith force Young in to a flying challenge.
Kev Gall then went on a 20 yard run that resulted in a wayward shot, with the game suddenly looking more balanced, and McGoldrick finally connected with a shot properly when he smacked a goal bound effort off Livesey, but the damage was done at the other end when the home side broke with pace.
Danny Graham took control of the ball, waited for the run of Neale McDermott and then played it inside beautifully. The confident midfielder took it in to his stride, strode in to the box and buried it beyond Moss to send Brunton Park wild.
Pitman pulled a woeful shot wide in the 87th minute, and it was job done for Carlisle as they registered their fourth win in a row with another comfortable display.
