We caught up with United's longest serving player on Saturday to get his thoughts on the 3-1 victory over Leeds.

"We're delighted with the performance," he admitted. "In the first half Leeds really showed what a good side they are and we really needed to step our game up at half time. We needed to show heart to go on and win the game and we knew that it might not be too pretty so, in the second half, we dug in and got our goals. It probably wasn't the best we've ever played but overall we deserved it in the end."

"I think the last half hour really shows the spirit amongst the squad," he said. "Everyone's together, even the subs and the guys who weren't involved, or who'd been left out of the squad. Look at Neil McDermott. He was left out and must've been really disappointed, but he was still in there with the rest of the guys cheering us on and congratulating us afterwards, and that's the sort of attitude you need. As I say, everyone's together and that showed in the last half hour. In some games teams are going to put you under a lot of pressure and you just have to get through those spells. We did that and it's good to get the result, but there's another big game on Tuesday now. If we don't go and get another result at Luton then the Leeds game counts for nothing really."

"I'm not sure why we struggled during the first half," he said. "I can't speak for any of the other lads but I didn't have any nerves at the time. I think you just have to give them credit because they started at a good tempo, they were getting in our faces and didn't give us any time to pass the ball around. When we did get a couple of passes together further up the field Leeds were right back on top of us, so it was very difficult to get going. At half time we were told to cut out the little pretty passes, just to keep it simple, work the channels and wait for our goals. We knew that for the fans that might not be the prettiest, but that if we got the result then everyone would be delighted."

"The lads were disappointed with the goal we conceded," he told us, "but then I was a little bit disappointed I didn't get a free-kick before that. I went up for a header and Beckford ran in to me, so I couldn't clear my lines properly. They took the throw-in quickly, Danny Livesey's really worked wonders to try and block two or three shots, but you need a bit of luck sometimes and, unfortunately for us, it dropped straight to Jermaine and he slotted it in, because he's a quality finisher."

"I think both sides wasted a couple of chances in the first half, but the difference was probably that we took ours in the second half," he said. "It was a great equaliser from Simon. The ball came out and he's taken the shot early and scored a great goal ... mind you he had a volley just after that, probably got carried away and smacked it miles wide."

"As for the last one," he added, "I'm not getting involved in that. There's a bit of a debate going on in the changing rooms, and I didn't have the best of views so, yeah, I'll stay out of that. From where I was I thought Bridgey had got it, but Danny Graham and Carlo are saying he touched it, so I haven't a clue. I'll leave it for them to sort."
