WE HAVE GOOD MIDFIELDERS
Chris Lumsdon marked his return to first team action last weekend with an excellent 'Man of the Match' performance in the game against Bristol Rovers.
"It's good to be starting games again," he said. "I've had a bit of time on the sidelines and it gets frustrating, but that's part of the game, so to be back in now, well, I'm really enjoying myself. It was nice to get the 'Man of the Match' award as well. I really just wanted to come back in and make sure I didn't do anything really wrong, and I felt that it went quite well for me. Mind you I thought the team as a whole did quite well, so it probably wasn't the most difficult of games to come back in."
On his own form, he told us: "This pre-season was the fittest I have been. I'd worked all summer to get ready and to try to get myself in to the team. Obviously that didn't happen, and because the lads have been doing so well it was very difficult to get back in. I've just waited for my chance, because I knew I was doing OK in training and that I felt good within myself, so it was just a matter of waiting for my chance and then trying to do it out there on the pitch. In football there are always going to be injures and players coming in and taking other peoples places, and that's what has happened here with me. Obviously I want to stay in the team now but, then again, when Thirls gets fit he'll want to be back, and that's the way it goes. Mind you, when he is fit I don't see why there isn't room for both of us, and Bridgey as well, so it's not just us. We've got a lot of good midfield players at this club and they're all pushing for a starting spot. You've got to be on your toes all the time at the moment"
"I like to think that I can see a decent pass, and that's something I can bring to the team," he explained. "If the lads are making those runs then hopefully I can find them with the right pass, and make a few goals."
"I've had a bit of stick recently," he said, "but that seems to be the way it goes. Someone always seems to get it. During my time here it's been Chris Billy, and Murph, and Karl Hawley have both mentioned that they've taken a bit. That's fair enough, they pay their money and it's up to them what they want to do when they watch the game, so I've got no grievances with them or anything like that. I try not to take much notice of it though. I know that for everyone who is giving me a bit of stick there will be plenty of others who will put their arm around you. There were people waiting outside the ground on Saturday who had waited for me, and who shook my hand and told me to ignore it, which was really great."
"There's no point in worrying about it," he continued, "because as a footballer you work all week for the game on a Saturday, and you don't really want anything to get in the way of that. I'll just knuckle down and I know the lads think I'm doing a good job, so that's the important thing."
