JUST KEEP MAKING THE RUNS

United were looking at one of those nervy ends to a game after Bournemouth pulled one back in the second half yesterday, but midfielder Neale McDermott sorted that one out when he sprinted through to score the decisive third goal, and gave the Blue's their fourth win on the spin.
After the match we caught up with him to get his thoughts on yet another victory: "Yeah I suppose it might have been a tricky last ten," he said. "At 2-1 you're only ever one mistake, or one moment of brilliance away from a draw, but the third goal effectively killed the game, and once we got it I don't think we were ever in any danger of not winning."
Describing the moment itself, he told us: "I saw that Danny was on-side when he got it, and then I realised that I was ahead of their midfield, so I just ran on. Luckily Dan looked up and found me with a good ball. I was actually in two minds whether or not to play in Gally, or go myself, but their defender seemed to go to Kev and show me the shot. That did it for me, so I just thought; 'Well I'll hit it then!' I knew that if I went across the keeper, that even if he saved it Gally might get the chance to tap the rebound in. I hit it hard and low and I'm just pleased it went in."
"Gally would have slaughtered me if I'd have missed," he added with a grin. "He told me so whilst I was celebrating actually! Mind you I was well aware of that before it even hit the net."
McDermott's goal was similar to his strike against Brentford, here at Brunton Park, and late bursts from midfield have become a trademark feature of his play: "The goal against Brentford was similar - but that's probably because that's how I like to play," he explained. "I want to getting up and in to the box. If the ball falls to me I think I'm a decent enough finisher to be able to score a few, and of course it's always an added bonus for the side if you can get goals from midfield."
"I made a couple of similar runs before I scored actually," he added. "There was one where Dave Raven couldn't quite pick me out, and another where I think Lummy knocked it in to Danny Graham instead. It's just a case of keep on making the runs, get in the box, and if you do that and it falls to you then there's always the chance of scoring."
Coming on to the field with just under half an hour to play, he explained: "I think the manager brought me on to inject a bit of energy. The lads played on Saturday, and at this time of the season you do start to feel it a little bit, so I think he just wanted someone to come on and energise the team a little bit. I tried to do that, and happily for me I got a goal as well!"
"Obviously I would have liked to have been a bit more involved this season," he said. "That's not been the way it's gone so far, and I'm disappointed when I get left out, but you've just got to keep going. The lads that have been in have done really well, so I'll just keep going in training and give it my best if I play for the Reserves. When I come on, like I did today, then I want to be noticed and give the manager a problem."
On the subject of the Play Offs, he told us: "We've hit a nice run of form at just the right time. Certainly, since I've been here, I don't think we've won four on the spin, and the longer we can keep that going the better. There's always that one team that come in with a late run and hit their stride just at the right time. You never know, that might just be us - I suppose we'll just have to wait and see over the next couple of weeks."
