NINE, NINE, NINE
The weekly update from Dolly:
Neale McDermott damaged his ankle in the Cumberland Cup game last week. He's jarred the joint in the ankle, but there is no ligament damage and it's progressing along nicely. He's still having a bit of treatment, and I'm going to step that up this week. I would expect him to train ... possibly later this week, or more definitely early next week.
Chris Lumsdon got through Saturday's game with no problem with his ankle. He was tired at the end of the game, but he's been out a month so that was to be expected. He'll get stronger with the more games he gets.
Karl Hawley and Simon Hackney are our long term worries at the moment. They have both just started new rehab progammes this week, and they are both doing some swimming and various excercises in the pool. That includes aqua jogging and things like that, and they are both doing ok at present.
Paul Murray is still on hold as I am still waiting to hear from the surgeon. I expect him to ring tonight when he's had a good look at the scans. We should know more this week as to what the next step is for him. My fear at the moment is that he does need an operation on one of the tendons on the back of his knee, but that's just my assumption rather than knowing 100%, and we can only wait for the results and decision of the surgeon. It's a bit frustrating for Muzza, and for all of us, but we can only wait for the expert.
Danny Graham got a knock on his calf in the match on Saturday. There is a little nerve that runs round the bony prominence, and he took a whack on that. His leg went numb for a while, but it looks fine now. He'll miss training for a couple of days this week, but I'm very confident that he'll be fine for the weekend.
Liam Atkin pulled out of training on Friday with a thigh strain, and he is having treatment on that at the moment. It's settling down ok, but I'll get him scanned next week if it doesn't improve. I expect him to be out for about three weeks.
Paul Thirlwell also got a knock in Saturday's game when someone stood on his foot. He has a bruised big toe, which is quite painful. He'll miss a couple of days training this week but will definitely be fine for the weekend.
Derek Holmes has also got a bruised foot, but this one is a bit more extensive than Paul. He struck the bottom of a boot and the whole area has bruised. It's his kicking foot as well, so we are just going to have to see how that settles down with regards to Wednesday's game in the Reserves, and also for Saturday's game in the first team. We are probably going to have to leave that as late as possible to see whether he's going to be fit.
Peter Murphy has a problem with one of the muscles around his hip, and he also has a tight thigh tendon. He'll be ok for Saturday's game, but he's going to stay with me for the start of the week. We'll just loosen his hips off and do a little bit of work on his tendon, and I'm sure he'll be ok for the weekend.
