BAD NEWS FOR DALTON
All of the injury news with Dolly:
Peter Murphy picked up a dead leag on Saturday when he took a whack to his thigh. He will spend two or three days with me, doing some remedial work and having treatment, and then he'll be ok for the trip to Walsall.
Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, as we know, suffered from a tweak to his knee ligament. We kept him out of the last two games as a precaution. He's seen the surgeon, he's had a scan and they are quite happy that it is just a little bit of scar tissue that was left when the old injury healed. He's back in full training and doing some extra fitness work with Greg, because he has missed a couple of games, but he's back and available for selection. While we are talking about him, by the way, congratulations from all of the staff on the birth of his daughter.
Shaun Vipond is also looking much better following the back problems that he was having. It was a nerve that was causing thigh problems as well, but I'm very happy with the way that is going. He's back to more or less full training with the lads, building his fitness up as, unfortunately, he hasn't played a game in pre-season. We've got to get him right and get him some Reserve games under his belt, and then he'll be raring to go.
Ged Dalton is our only other injury. He damaged his knee on the last day of training up in Scotland. It was swollen over the weekend, and we've tried to get that settled down with some treatment. We had it scanned on Friday and he's actually seeing the surgeon today. It looks like he has damaged the cartilage in his knee - the bit they call the medial meniscus - and he'll be having an operation on Wednesday with our surgeon Mr Dawson. It's really unfortunate for him, as he's just joined the Club. Until he's had the operation I can't really say how long it's going to be. It depends on whether they repair it or take it out, but he'll be out for a minimum of 6 weeks and, depending on the type of procedure he goes through, it could be anything up to 4 months to give it time to heal.
That's all for now,
Keep well,
Dolly
